Smokin' Samoca

The Samoca-35 Super is a mid-'50s Japanese rangefinder. Mine has a sharp 3-element Ezumar lens. Everything on the camera works fine, though the rangefinder patch has dimmed over the last half-century. A small dot of black tape in the center of the viewfinder window helps to produce a little additional contrast and makes the rangefinder much easier to use in low light.

Most impressive results, that is a very special instrument.

The first roll I put through the Samoca was a disaster. It took me about six months and another roll to figure out that the drugstore processing was the culprit. A good lesson in not giving up too soon.

Hi, I just got one of these beautiful cameras and I'm wondering what are those symbols to the side? The lightbulb and the red lightning? Are those for flash use? I've been trying to find the manual for this particular model and I couldn't. Thank you.

Yes, you are correct. The shutter is synched for flash, allowing a choice between electronic and bulb.
